Howdy,

I searched the forum but didn't find anything. I have no opinion on either, I assume the H vs V refers to the axis of the spindle, even if that's true I don't know much beyond that.

Thanks!

Weren't we just talking about noob questions? lol

Vertical Machining Center, and Horizontal Machining Center. Or if your french, Centre.

Thanks! Yes I"m a noob :) Sorry my question was not worded well at all. I did figure out the H = horizontal and V= Vertical :)

What are main differences, why choose one over another?

Vertical machine:
Pros:
Will typically have a bigger work envelope
Can be more rigid (Vises mounted to table not tombstone)

Cons:
Poor chip evacuation.

Horizontal:
Pros:
Chips fall down as machine is cutting
Can index tombstone for more setups/parts

Cons:
Less rigidity as you rely on the tombstone
typically less room for parts

General rule of thumb. Vertical machine is all around where the horizontal is for mass production.

There are exceptions to that given the required application.

lol, center is American, centre is everywhere else.

If someone can tell me how your spelling makes it any better, I'll gladly change over.

Same with your "ou" fascination. Plough, Colour, Harbour, etc. all seam like a waste of ink.

Get with the programme.

Thanks! Exactly the information I was looking for.
