Flow Drill

Has anyone ever used this drill type of drill? This tool can displace or reform material. We are looking at this tool rather than a secondary operation where a nut may be welded to the part.

We use one of these drills all the time. Drill and tap for
1/2 NPT in 3.5" dia. X 1/8 wall aluminum tubing. Works great.....

Looks like almost the same thing (process) as friction stir welding. Should be a very viable process in the right material and situation.

Years ago I used them on steel square tube for ag equipment,,with a decent setup we did thousands of holes in a bridgeport mill,,once you get the speeds and feed right its a very simple operation,,

They've been running quite an ad campaign lately.

I would assume you want to stick with LOW carbon steels eh?

Also - I think I would keep that process outta the oil-slingers! :eek:

Thanks for the help.
I can confirm the material is a soft steel, but am glad to see there is some favorable opinions of this type of process.

I have a couple tools on order and look forward to trying this out.
