I am looking at a used CNC router with a Fanuc 180i controller. It is an older heavy duty Komo router. All my work is 3d using HSM toolpaths. I am primarily cutting wood and tooling board but I would likely use this machine for some 3d work on aluminum as well. Because I am cutting wood my feeds are typically pretty fast. Is this controller up to the task? My current router I have to turn down the feed on certain toolpaths to avoid data starving. I would like to get away from this.
The Controller apparently has a front end of Windows Xp. The router manufacturer offers remote diagnostics and support I would be scared to hook any machine with xp up to the net. Can you upgrade the Windows on a Fanuc Contoller?
