Hello, I'm new to machining. I have about a year of limited experience on Mazak and Okuma mills, now however, I have taken a position running a Mazak turning center doing rough turns on raw forgings. It's a whole new ball game and I don't have nearly the experience I was hoping I had. I am looking for advice on where to find good information that will lead to general knowledge improvement and topics that I should begin investing time into studying in order to further my career and my knowledge base. I'm working about 60 hours a week so I don't have much time for college courses or school based training. Thanks in advance!

Wise man say; "No Education like Experience".

Turning is easy, just figure out how to use your Offsets, so you don't cut Over/Under sized first try.

Set up one of these forgings on a manual lathe and rough it. Whatever works, works. There's nothing magic about a cnc lathe, it just doesn't waste time positioning the tools. It's just as dumb in the cut as a manually operated lathe.
