So on another thread about parting troubles in aluminum, here's a side by side of two brands. Both were parted off using a A2 deep groove insert. It was a straight plunge cut, no peck or back facing. The top part is Kaiser material and the bottom is Sapa. Both claim to be USA material. The significant difference wasn't revealed as pronounced in the pictures as it is when the part is in front of you. But the Kaiser material sliced off like butter leaving a smooth finish for a parting cut. The Sapa on the other hand squealed like a stuck pick pig, wouldn't break a chip, and the finish is very wavy. It looks like cottage cheese. Other operations in the Sapa material are about as bad. Drills scream. Boring bars squeal. And forget about any ID grooving, nothing but chatter. What is really mind boggling, is that the Sapa still cuts 10 times better than the no name Chinese crap that I will never allow in my shop.
