Anyone have experience working with parts having extremely high Ni content?

Is chip control an issue? Ballpark sfm for turning?

heh, yeah, i already sent the specs to my sandvik rep.

We'll see what he comes up with.

All good info, thanks.

Hastelloy we've run before and had no trouble. I have not cut nickel though.

Sandvik reported back and said machinibility of Ni200 (99% Ni) is .56 x the sfm recommended for 1212 steel. They have had good success even lower than .56x at around 200sfm.

Breakdown -

B- 2.0%
Si- 3.0%
Fe- 0.75%
Cr- 0.50%
C- 0.20%
Ni- Remainder, 93.55%

I made parts years ago out of pure nickel. The turning was fine but the tapped hole ended up running really slow (to stop work hardening as posted above) and had to use Moly D. Ran it like it was 316 SS. Really ductile and gooey. These were smallish bushing type parts, maybe 1/2" dia.
