Heidenhain Scale Repair shops or conversion to motor encoder.

Hi.

I am looking for a source to repair the y axis scale on my Lagunmatic 3516. Does anyone have any good recommendations? Alternatively, I was wondering what was involved in converting this machine to encoders. I have two of the same mills but the other has encoders which seem to be less trouble and more affordable.

how old?

what is wrong with the scale?

old ones the light source goes, tedious but not complex repair

heidenhain will sell you the rubber seal

The scale has no feedback at all so it must be an electronic problem. The machine is a 99. I believe the scales have been repaired in the past.

The scales can be sent to Heidenhain in Chicago, but I have used Atech Authority in the Los Angeles area to rebulb and recalibrate several, with good results. You will likely loose some accuracy if you fall back to the motor encoders.
