I'm replacing the encoder on the servomotor for my live tool. There is no mark on the shaft(motor) and the timing mark on the old encoder was on the glass which feel so I have no references. Does anybody know how to find the zero of the servomotor by applying DC current to the phase. Or how I could proceed? Thank you, have s great week-end.

Is it actually necessary to index the encoder to the servomotor? AFAIK, the servomotor is just a motor if it doesn't have a controller running it......but I'm thinking of brush type, so I don't know the tricks required for brushless.

AC brushless servos require "timing" An O-scope makes many combinations of motor and encoder possible.

THere are some good reference posted on related forums

yes, IIRC 1ft6 series is synchonous brushless. so yes, it requires the encoder to be lined up to proper phase of motor to run. if u cant get it done and want to send motor somewhere to have it done, we can do for you (I am not one who personally knows how to do it for siemens motor so cannot help)

Thank you very much for the reply remove the servomotor this week-end and sending it to repair shop. After removing found out the bearing are also very rough so it might be a good thing. Again thank you and have a good week.
