hurco vm5i
I have been looking at the Hurco vm5i for my home shop. Does anyone have any experience with this machine, or any Hurco VMCs?
Thanks in advance!

We have a knee mill and bed mill made by Hurco.
The knee mill had a bad power suppy, fixed under warrenty, the drive belt changed twice, and a bad z axis encoder, in 5000 plus hours of use.
Is that what you were looking for, or do you have other questions?

I dont really have any specific questions, I guess, just wondering about impressions.
How was the support on the repairs?
Thanks!

In warrenty, they expected us to use a voltmeter and check things in a live electrical cabinet, which spooked our non-electrical supervisor.
The rest we did ourself, with help for the encoder.

Service is going to depend largely on your dealer. The general consensus is that the value is pretty good on the Hurco stuff, some people seem to find lemons, others, they run forever. Nobody is going to have experience with the VM5i, it's a brand new model, and I don't think they are even available until IMTS...

Almost 100% correct. The VM5 is available NOW, but was only released for sale 8/1. So far, there are none in the field.

Hey Zeus, it must be really awkward to operate, being on its side like that.

It's the same control (newer version) than the one I run. I don't recall what they have changed for the new Version 9. Hurco's are very nice for quick programming. They are decent mechanically not top end but good.
I believe the VM5 will have a single phase version. This mill should give stiff competition to the Haas toolroom mills. The Hurco conversational control is a natural fit for the type of people that buy this class of mill.
Les George-I am very jealous. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I'm surprised you can see it from your high horse, Rex!

Thanks Jon, Mine is 3 phase, a single phase would have been a nice option!

Actually, I was on my Pygmy Pony.
Nothing personal, Les, I just can't figure out why so many posted pics are askew. Do cell phones not have any means of rotating pics so Ol' Geezers, like myself, don't get a neck crick trying to look at them?

Then why not just say that?
