Gents, I'm making good progress on learning my new cnc lathe but have come across a problem I can not figure out. I’m dead in the water.
I have been turning OD stuff and drilling with no problem, now I need to do some ID stuff with a boring bar. The problem I am having is with the positioning of the boring bar tip (I think). The controller is a Fanuc Oi.
Here is the issue: After setting the geometry offsets for the boring bar using the tool pre-setter the actual boring bar tip does not match the DRO position in X. The Z positioning is fine. For example, if I jog the boring bar tip to be at X0.00 (as best I can visually) the DRO has it as X.3742. If I jog the tip up to X1.000 (visually again) the DRO says X.5458.
I have re-set the geometry offsets with the pre-setter many times, same result. I made sure there are no erroneous wear offsets. There is a variable in the geometry offsets for the tip position; 1, 2….7,8 for the different quadrants. I’ve tried setting this to “2” and others but still get the same results. I am in dire need of some help!
