This is probably more related to QC, but I wanted to send out a feeler
on what folks like for making impressions to measure. Like for internal
grooves, radius features, etc. Features on parts hard to probe, and
an impression, on an optical comparitor can bring those details to prevelant
"light".

In the old days we used a sealing wax like substance that we melted with
fire and stuffed it into the cavities to be measured. And also I have used
a silicone like substance that was mixed together like 2 part epoxy glue.

What I'm looking for are some sources for the epoxy/silicone substance as
it made excellent impressions. Like the PVS stuff dentists use.

Any info on this would be appreciated...

There is a product made by flexbar called reprorubber. It is flexible but very dimensionally stable. Theoretically (they claim) that it is repeatable to your part within something like .00002. I have used it with good success in snap ring grooves, etc. This is actually where this product is great cause it will flex and release. It is not stable enough to probe, but you could measure it on a comparator or any vision system.

EDIT* it is a two part epoxy like substance. It has a base and a catalyst. It is very easy to use and mix. Also, there is a putty type.

I'm not positive about it but the exaflex and reprorubber are very closely related. Possibly the same manufacturer that makes both or something. That's interesting how close they are.

You are looking for a product called 'Dental Wax'. I have used it for rough measurements of hidden features, and then used the Repro Rubber stuff if the tolerance is close.

Exaflex is great. We also use a dental product, looks like a hard brown crayon. U light it with a match and it gets gooey, then hardens up in a few seconds. You can also use the same piece over and over for years, that's why I don't remember what it's called.

For something real fast and simple, we use silly putty

Hello, I just read this post and I'm surprised to see that this technique does not seem widespread in the US.
In Europe, this technique is widespread and technically approved by many big names in the industry.
Plastiform is marketed and distributed all over the world today.
Maybe this post is too old ;-)

Hello, I just read this post and I'm surprised to see that each and everyone of your recent posts, says the same fucking thing.

Each and every one an old post about plastiform, dredged up.

You wouldn't happen to be a spammer by any chance? Just saying.

Phil, You've fucked up and need to go deeper a bit!
That's only 3 posts and he's got a count of 5!

Now go and do your homework to find the missing 2 !!! :toetap::toetap::toetap:

( Though I do give him some credit for spamming sustainability! )

I audited the other 2 posts, 06-29-2016 and 06-30-2016. They seemed innocuous enough. That's why I said recent posts. His first two were late June 16.

Almost like his account has been hacked by the Plastiform Mafia. :D I've heard that's a big problem in Mauritius. The Play Doh police don't stand a chance, against this evil empire.

Interesting side fact, the internal search of members here often glitches when the name contains periods. M.C.E., when you click his profile, it brings up a totally different member. mce6062's from Lake Dallas, Texas.

I hope that bloke will forgive me for ripping him a new arse hole. (/joke) :)

Regards Phil.
