Hey Guys, a couple weeks ago Arco was here to pickup our Mazak J500 mill. The weather was great for moving machines. Arco had 2 semis here, one for each forklift! The freight company that shipped the machine also had a semi here. Needless to say the neighbors weren't at all happy. Especially when Alro showed up and UPS Freight showed up right during the middle of the move! :D

The machine actually sold to one of our members on PM! I won't reveal his name in case he want to post his own new machine thread. I was trying to sell directly to him but I ended up selling to a used machinery dealer because I had to close the deal on the new machine. He was still interested in the machine and he ended up buying it from the used machine dealer. His new machine was supposed to arrive today too. Things workout in strange ways sometimes!

Awesome!
What was the motivating factor for getting rid of the mazak to get the Okuma?

The Mazak's chip conveyor/coolant tank was very long and I had to locate the machine with the operator side against a wall so the conveyor could come all the way out. I couldn't load parts/fixtures with our stacker. I inquired about a side discharge conveyor from Mazak but they were very slow to respond and wanted over 18k for a tank and hinge belt conveyor. They wouldn't budge on the price at all.

I also wanted to add an Erowa robot to the machine and their air through the trunnion option wasn't field installable. Basically they told me I would have to buy an new machine with the option installed from the factory. The electronic part of there robot interface was very expensive too.

I got this Okuma as a demo off the floor of Morris Midwest. They gave me a very attractive price and threw in the robot interface and air through the trunnion. The air through the trunnion is a field installable option for Okuma.

And the Okuma is full 5 axis, and a better machine overall.

Few more pictures of the move.

W T H are those guys doing under that machine without any blocking under the forks? They are a hydraulic hose failure away from disaster.
