Does anyone know the difference between m73, m74, m75? Okuma 5020. I'm threading 1.5"/6tpi in 304 SS. I'm looking for a cycle that will decrease my depth of cut on each subsequent pass. Here's my cycle as it stands now:

NAT08
N0700 G97 S251 M08
N0701 G00 X9.4 Z0 T080808
N0702 X1.55
N0703 G71 X1.3034 Z-3 H0.2166 D0.004 U0.001 B60 F1 J6 M22 M73 M32

At around 100sfm, this is the maximum depth of cut I can handle before I crack the insert.

Thanks a lot for any help.

All of the infeed patterns decrease the doc per pass. If you wnat more control, use G33.

rapid to start point
G33 X(1st pass dia) Z-3 F=1/6
Xx.xxxx
Xx.xxxx
Xx.xxxx
Xx.xxxx
Each X is the next pass diameter which you can control. It does take a littler longer to program, but you can tinker with it more. I will usually make 2 passes at my last pass diameter as it tends to clean the threads better.

I can try to e-mail the patterns to you, or fax them if you give me the info. Tuesday at the earliest. Good luck.

Does the 5020 use LAP like the 3000 does? if so, I know a LAP version of your program on the 3000 would cut in decreasing increments for the last three passes.

On the 3000 control, the LAP would cut the first cut based on the E (specified in diameter terms)and then the remainder of the cuts would be specified by the D (in diameter terms). In the manual is says that it cuts the first pass at E/2 and then the subsequent passes at D/2 until it gets to the last four passes, and it does those at D/4, D/8, D/16,and the last at D/16 again.

I have - but dont have here, a 5000 manual... if you dont have one, I can look up and see if it does have LAP and how it handles it.
