Thomas Linn, who co-founded Boston Digital along with Ara Aykanian in 1965, passed away on Thursday, 10/6 in Jamestown, RI. He was 80 years old.

I'm going to miss my Uncle Tom.

My deepest sympathy.
Your uncle's machines are what got our tooling
shop into cnc. My brother even went down to the Milford
plant in the mid nineties for maintenance school.
Was a great organization and everyone there was very
helpful even though our machines were bought used.

That is sad to hear. I have a special place in my heart for Bostomatics, since my first machine was a Bostomatic 312. She was making parts all day on the rotary axis. Still holds tighter tolerance then any machine in my shop! I bet my parts guys are toasting up a drink to him. Thanks for letting us know.

Sad news, and makes one feel his age.

I knew both Tom and Ara (Aykanian) "when." The early Bostomatics were my introduction to NC metalcutting, though I'd done a fair amount of work with CAD/CAM in other areas before that.

Thanks for the kind words. A fair number of family was able to make it to the funeral, and Ara was there. It gets hard for the over 80 crowd to travel.

Saw some great pictures and news clippings from the early days of Boston Digital that would be worth posting in an "antique CNC" forum.

I started out with a Bostomatic 312.
The shop it came from started out with it.

They thrived and grew, and so am I.

Very nice machines.

My condolences, they were pioneers, and blazed a trail for others to follow.
