Permanent ink to mark parts

Sometimes the customer calls for a "Contrasting Black Permanent Marking" on the parts.
Sometimes for White.

I've had a bottle of ink, don't remember where I got it.. For stamping on the part number and revisions.
Any recomendations for inks, ink pads etc?
Something from MSC, or McMaster? Or the local print shop?

Is there such a thing as ROHS compliant ink??

My shop, permanent ink = Sharpie!:D

OK, OK, sometimes I will use a paint pen. LOL
But nothing more substantial then that.

Doug.

I frequently use those acid etching pens, that is the only thing that I can think of that is really permanent. It won't obviously work on stainless parts but other things it works very well on.

What the customer wants is a 10 digit part number and revision stamped onto the part.
Typically, .2" high characters, I have a small set of rubber type on a handle.
I've also just engraved them in with a 1/16" or 1/32" ball mill.

What I am looking for is a suggestion for the appropriate ink.
They have a strange idea that they want very neat looking parts, to build multi million dollar machines. Go figure.
