I'm trying to learn about CNC and want a recommendation for an easy textbook to get started, learn the jargon and start to know what I don't know. Any suggestion?
Thanks.

There are lots of decent textbooks out there. Your local community college might even have courses on CNC programming.
Check out Mike Lynch's website at CNC Concepts. He's the tech editor of Modern Machine Shop Magazine, and he sells a lot of courses in Video and textbook form. His website is: http://www.cncci.com/ Click on the "Products" link and select "Textbooks".

The Peter Smid book that is linked by HAMMERHEAD is a GREAT book. I went from knowing virtually nothing about programming to being pretty proficient in less than six months. This guy did an AWESOME job on his book. At forty bucks, it's a bargain. I just checked the link and saw he came out with a second edition. I'm going to buy it along with his book on macros. I did notice there were a few typos in his first edition. A typo in programming code can be disasterous on a machine!
