I've got to cut a 6"-8 npt id thread on our 2015 HAAS ST30 lathe and could use a sanity check on my calculations.

Min specified thread depth is 1.95 and we're going a bit further to 2.125 so there is no chance whatever goes in here will bottom out on the shoulder since part has a 5.5 bore thru. At the face I came up with a minor of 6.4059. Bottom end of the bore I get 6.2735. Starting .2 off the face which would give a 6.4183 start dia.

Major dia at the face I came up with 6.6059. At my thread start point of Z.2 gives X6.6183.

Do those numbers seem right? Been years since I last had the single point NPT.

Peroni,

Going from ThreadPal, the starting minor at the pipe face is 6.4096"

Starting @ Z.2, the starting X diameter is X6.4221"
(formula is .2 x .0625" =0.0125 )

The minor diameter @ Z-2.125 is X6.4693" (using a basic thread height of 0.0964")

I am not sure why you need to calculate the starting MAJOR though. Having said that, I calculate 6.615"

Doug.
