what is a good graphic card (windows, pentium 4) and how much video memory is needed, for 3-D cam modelling applications, and is the same card and memory also sufficient for game playing. Or would it be a good idea to keep the two applications separate?

I have seen 3-D modeling work well on crappy old 4mb cards on P1 systems, so I don't think you need much of a card for that, however if you want to play the new modern video games get as good a card as you can afford, like a 128mb DDR card, as my 2 gigahertz P4 with a Nvidia GeForce2 64mb card will freeze on some games when the action gets going.

It depends on the software some, but go with 128MB video only and you'll be in good shape. For the most part 3d modelling is a video game, so most gaming cards do well with cad/cam. On my solidworks machine I have a 3DLabs wildcat 5110. awesome card, priced to match.....
