I have the impression there are two versions...one that uses the same gear pressure angles, to for example, rise a jig bore or spotter head on an FP2 or FP3, and another version that adapts an FP2 or FP3 to utilize an FP1 vertical head via different pressure angle gears. Am I right or is it more complex or simple than that ?

Think there is also a riser specific for the FP4 .....However think (not sure) that is actually an extender to extend the position or the
upper "Y" ram/ vertical head.....
Cheers Ross

Ross,
The FP4 has a mechanism in the upper ram the raises and lowers the front part of the vertical head only. This adjustment does not work on accessory heads. When accessory heads are mounted the raising mechanism must be in the upper position so the upper ram can be pushed back.

Actually you have it backwards...There is a riser for the FP2/FP3 as you say..rises any of the accessories that normally fit the FP2/FP3..
Then there is the FP1 riser. Designed to fit the FP1's 14.5* pressure angle gears on the driven side and outputs with 20* pressure angle gearing that is compatible with the larger machine accessories...in specific
the precision boring head....That riser is the factory solution to fitting the FP1 with the precision boring and drilling head.....
There are additional differences between the FP2/FP3 riser and the FP1 version...namely the shape and front to back location.

Matt...Doesn't the FP4 also require spacers on the dovetail to accept the smaller machine accessories?
Cheers Ross

Ross,
Yes, the dovetail is larger on the FP4 so 'spacers' are required- these do not change the mounted head height.
