Finally got my FP42NC D3 up and running ROM backup question
Finally got my FP42NC up and running. As mentioned in previous posts, it had a problem with the Bosch Servo 038035 power supply board. Turns out the board had a dead transformer. I sent it off the Siebert for repair and 950$ later its back, installed and the machine is up and running. Next step is to clean it up swap the tilt/swivel table that’s on my FP41A with the 4’ wide monster table on the FP42 and put in up on leveling pads. I could really use any Dialog 3 setup info out there if anyone can send some my way. I think Ive figured out the basics, but any reference helps. Also, any FP42NC specific material would be welcome.
One question I have: Ive got the rom version on the FP42NC that configures the serial port with the dip switches on the NS152 board as described in the serial setup from Martins site. My FP41A machine has the same dialog 3 control as well but later roms that let you setup the serial port from the mode 14 and 15 screen. Can I just copy the roms on the FP41A to some new compatible roms and upgrade the NS152 serial card on the FP42NC? Also, does everyone just make copies of their rom chips on the Dialog 3 or are they pretty reliable at holding the data over time? Thanks to everyone for the help getting this machine running!

Mark:
Nice work. Glad you got her running.
Think you can copy the later version software and just use it if the NS152 is also upgraded, but think this really is a question for DD.
Not familiar with the earlier setup, but don't see a down side to setting the communication parameters via DIP switches unless there was additional features in the later version.....
If the later setup gave higher transfer speeds that might be a plus....On my D-4 i will not run the transfer rate above 4800 BAUD due to errors...Its slow but gets the job done without trouble.
Cheers Ross
