Ok everybody have one so why not me?
It's like a disease...
First you need, then you bleed, and when you're on your knees...sorry i m out of order.

It was a shine day on GR and the radar hit red alarm with that new add.
FP2 500X travel and the original Deckel cabinet full of goodies...
Don't get me wrong, I m more than happy with the ABENE-ACIERA combo.
But what would be life without those little things that makes us happy?

"I'v got to see her up close" told to myself and pull the trigger(or hit enter if you don't like poetry).

Fast Forward...

Today was delivery day. Mid summer and it's beginning to look like Christmas...
Of course it's not metric but i have something in mind.
More pictures tomorrow

So very glad to be a part of FP2 familia.
Regards
Kyriakos

Of course it's not metric but i have something in mind.

Abene/Aciera AND Deckel?

Solve your metric problem for yah.

Considered bringing them to the USA with you? "Bisexual" we are. Measuring systems, anyway. Or just indifferent..

Mind, competition is stiff for a Day Job as "elitist", but it is a HUGE market here.

:)

Did you buy that machine in the UK perhaps ???
I did a transfer from imperial to metric once
http://www.practicalmachinist.com/v...s/rebuild-imperial-deckel-back-metric-291637/
There is a lott involved you do not think of in the first place
This conversion was done to sell it as a metric machine so all had to be done
If for personal use I would put a DRO on it and be done

I still have all the imperial parts so if someone wants to do a conversion from metric to imperial I can help (Nah is not gonna happen)

Nice purchase Kyriakos! Thanos told me about this, but I had not expected the machine to be in such great condition. What's inside the tool cabinet? More photos please! Cheers, Bruce

PS: If you put a DRO on it, you will never look at the dials. Sometimes you might look at the scales for rough layout and clamping, but those would not be too expensive to change over.

If I look at the picture of the OP you see that a planc of the pallet is torn loose by the strap
Thats exactly why I always put 2 or even better 3 plancs between pallet and machine
And then strap the machine over those plancs
see the picture

Hi to all,

Spent the day with my friend Kyriakos, playing with the FP2 and the tools. Really nice machine indeed, I'll leave it to Kyriakos to follow up on this!!

Regarding securing the machine on the pallet, please allow me, once again, to thank my friend and PM member who took care of the palletizing for my machine! Prepared two OSB sheets sized as the pallet and secured in a cross manner on the pallet. Machine bolted nicely on top of all that. Rock solid, no straps at all!

BR,
Thanos

Today we sort out some of the stuff. “We” as me and Thanos.
He drove all the way just to help on inspection and evaluation.
Can’t thank him enough.

The machine is in great near mint condition. NO GREASE on the ways, minimum use of coolant, oil everywhere…no scratch that I mean it the good way.
Feeds and rapids are working smooth and overall the machine is very quiet.
Only the chain at the base is loose.

Just to clarify: I don’t have space for 3 mills and cabinets.
Abene is rock SOLID, so I will have to decide between the other two.
Those 2 are very similar and yet so different.
Capabilities, weight, dimension, plethora of accessories…
But yet the strange decision of Aciera to adopt SK30 for such capable machine…
And of course Y feed and rapid and horizontal quill for FP2…

Inside the cabinet were the usual suspects…
Universal table, slotting head, high speed head, ohhh just take a look at the pictures.

I believe everybody will enjoy some pictures

Dear Kyriakos, that looks fantastic, congratulations! What's the machine number? It appears to be a close sister of mine (number 4220). Cheers, Bruce

Peter you are a pro in every respect. Palletizing also.
My Fp2 traveled through EU without a strap!!! Just sitting on a pallet!!!
Lucky me.

What started as a photo session for FP2 ends up as a side by side comparison with F4.

Ok follow me on this
Both machines are very well maintained, clean ways, without any troubling sounds.

What it's very surprising is the over-engineering they do on F4.
Quill OD 90mm and SK30 for F4 and
Quill OD 70mm and SK40 for FP2

The Swiss build an precision machine and they wanted to be sure that no one could break them.

I prefere to work on a FP2 though
Better ergonomics IMHO
The slimmer quill is part, if not all, of Deckels choise to use needle bearings
This is a very good bearing IMHO Just if the races gets damaged you have a bigger problem as with a standard bearing
Also the Swiss have a tendency to use "Specials" in all places you don`t need a special really . I hate that

Peter

I am an Fp2 guy myself as well Peter, but we have to admit that spindle bearings on deckel spindles can certainly be clasified as 'specials'...On the other hand, I don't have any feeling regarding the cost of a set of precision bearings for a, let's say, Aciera or Schaublin compared to a Singer, or other specialist, treatment of a deckel spindle!

Thanos

Singer can only replace the needles if these are a bit worn
If there is some pitting even Singer cannot save the spindle
I had several high speed heads with that problem

Peter

John, I wouldn't use "genuine Deckel" parts here, I would get a suitable scale and drill/mill it to fit. Cheers, Bruce
Or just order a thin adhesive back silver plastic or SS scale and stick it over the originals....with the black screen print of number and divisions, it's clearer than original anyway.

McMaster-Carr

Also available in vertical scale versions. The silver plastic scale overlays are a very close match to the satin finish of the original steel scales. If ever damaged by chips or whatever, just peel it off and stick on a new one.
