We are looking at a DMG Mori that has a "DMG Mori Seiki Celos Control" on it. We are a Fanuc shop. Does this control use standard g code? Does this machine have its own g and m codes or are they like the Fanuc codes? Is the dnc side of the control standard or unique to the control. We are an oem production shop and run the same parts. We don't need any conversational controls.

Thanks

You will most definitely need a specific CAM post-processor for any DMG machine. The basics (G54, G90, G96, G00 etc.) are easily understood by the DMG, but in addition it needs a lot of other vomit to work.

chcwhiz, CELOS is just a front end to whatever control hardware is behind it, be it Fanuc, Mitsubishi, or Siemens. In addition, it has it's own built in apps like Job Manager, Job Scheduler, and a Tech Calculator. If you're a production shop you're in luck, that's where CELOS really shines. I could go on and on about features but I would not be doing it justice, you would do much better going to see one in person.

As far as code, it's still pretty much native to whatever control is running in the background. That said, there is some level of translation in the control. For example, shops have dumped Fanuc programs into an NHX horizontal (Mits) and the control was able to translate the handful of different codes for things like tapping etc. on the fly. DMG MORI also has a translation service that will do this for you if you have a lot of programs to convert, and have post processors for most CAD/CAM systems.
