    Default I Got One! MH700C

My job of 34 years is ending in boss retirement and auction. Have run a 1979 Hitachi Seiki VA-40 since new and dreamed of leaving with it. I can't really comprehend how some folks go through life without things like a machining center. A month ago i'm told a friend needs a Deckel Maho MH700C in storage out of his small shop with no 3 phase. I've never been to his shop and was told in the past he's storing a pantagraph. Well things have happened pretty fast. Brother made room in his fab shop with power and even a few jobs. My thoughts have turned to what kind of lathe complements such a versitle mill.

I found a letter from Karl Riehs in the repair manual. Its instructions for software upgrade with a much larger list of constants. I really hope this manual is original with the machine and not bought on ebay. I have gathered lots of info from this site to help with power up, load constants, lube everything. Any tricks on cleaning scales is welcome.

    Luke:
Nice looking machine. Manual has the serial number on it so unless you wrote it there if the numbers match the machine I would guess that the manual is original to your machine.(7 is written in Euro style with a cross on the vertical stroke).

If that were my machine and i was going to use it...would invest in sending the scales to a HH service facility for cleaning, bulb replacement and calibration , new seals and alignment to the home reference marks.
Cost of such service should run somewhere around $300-350.00....per scale.
Would also replace all the way wipers right away...
Not sure about the spindles on that machine...If it were a Deckel i would also be doing a clean pack and thrust adjustment on both.

    Cheers Ross

Looks nice but how do you get into that huge electrical cabinet with it against the wall?

Looks to me like you need to pick it back up and slide a big coolant pan under it!

You won't be making too many chips too long with (what appears to be) the OEM coolant system. (or lack there of)

Too many machines built in that timeframe had coolant as a secondary thought.

Machine appears to be on Hillman skates in the photo, so I presume it is not in it's final resting place. Sure is amazing how many of those older style CNC Mahos were sold here...they just keep popping up. Maho USA must have been in high cotton in the early 80's and thought the party would never end.
