I'm cutting mostly 12-19mm thick aluminum 2 axis profiles. small dovetails, flexures, etc.. .25mm wire.
I have been using 1/2 hard brass on STEEL technologies, and about 4 passes down the finest ra finishes... I like the finish. very happy with finish and dimensionally too.
If I select aluminum technology I get only a two pass option. I'm not happy with that roughness. however, the alumium tech seems to provide less wire breakage when roughing.
Admiddedly I almost always start outside the part not a start hole... cause I dont have a threader and I'm lazy.... and that break into/out of the part is usually the culprit... but not enough to change my ways.
Anyway, I'm thinking of cut and paste some CMD lines to get the finish passes I want with the more reliable aluminum rough cut.. I've not done this before.
any suggestions?
Or would it be easier to simply lie about part thickness to achieve my goal? cycle time is not a critical factor here. less babysitting of the machine is.
