I was wondering if any of you have suggestions with burning a deep rib in Moldstar 90 with C3 graphite. We have Charmilles Roboform 31 machines and currently using graphite to steel technology set to negative polarity. Electrode wear is substantial as expected, but looking to increase production by decreasing time.

Thanks,

How much overburn can you get away with while still staying in tolerance ? I would recommend putting as much "juice" to it with a roughing trod ,im sure you already knew that but we typically use 2 trods ,3 if there is fine detail . We typically use a .01/side undersized trods and orbit to size.We have a charmille at work but we only use it for gates and broken taps removal.

Increase your "jump" time, (the rate of travel at which the electrode exits and reenters the cavity). At the same time, increase your on time (the "A" generator setting on Charmilles machines). Decrease your off time (the "B" generator setting on Charmilles machines). This will create a more aggressive burn, yet at the same time creating a vacuum in the cavity area that will assist with debris evacuation. Spend the time and money necessary producing an additional roughing electrode, and sacrifice it by using the hottest generator settings your workpiece will tolerate. It sounds like you are doing a production type burn, so the cost for additional roughing electrode(s) should be negligible.
