Can anybody help me with the requirements for arc welding aluminum?
I was in the local hardware store and saw a packet of aluminum flux covered welding rods. On the packet it says 50 amps DC reverse polarity. I had a few 120 amp diodes, so I made a diode bridge with 4 of them and connected it to a small home arc welder. This will give me a nice smooth DC current. Needless to say it does not produce an arc to start a weld. The assistant in the shop was no help at all.
Now the question. Should it be a smooth supply or should it be a pulsed supply. Is a 50Hz pulse allright, or must it be a high frequency pulse?
