We grind chamfers on the edges of plates before we weld them. A plate beveler is faster. I need to bevel up to 1/2" at a 45 degree angle but the bevel only needs to be 1/4". Who makes a good machine for this?

I have a little air powered Nitto, and I like it a lot- but its an order of magnatude smaller than what you are talking about- it puts about a 1/8" bevel on thinner plate.
Its kinda like a high speed router with carbide inserts.

Nitto makes very good tools, and I would certainly look at them.
The other company I would look at, for hand portable models, is Trumpf.
I dont have one, but I have heard good things. Solid, well built, very expensive german stuff.

For a stationary model, if thats what you want, there are these guys-
