Brass Nut

Hi all!
I'm going to improve the latch on my corn stoves.
I want to use a brass nut with a handle on it
instead of the latch cam system it uses now.
What brass should one use?? I'm thinking of using
a standard grade 5 bolt for the threaded end.

I would use acme instead of regular V-thread form. Less chance of binding up.

I'll get a picture tomorrow. I don't if acme thread will
fit. The hole in the door is only about 5/8" and then
the bushing for the latch rod.

I have seen acme threads down under 1/8". Acme thread is a tooth form, just like V thread is.
