been usin' little next to no abrasive scotchbrite wheels on a mini air angle grinder cleanin' up my L&S http://qceagles.com/album1_054.htm
sorry about the plug
so.... a kid brings back this castiron lug thingamapob for taking off his fancy wheel cap on his low rider that was cracked in half by one of the pounding lugs....
well i told him i would fix it at break time but clean off the paint first....he didn't...
so i grab this little scotch brite wheel and clean it off...normally i would have walked over to the pedestal wire wheel and done it but what the heck saved me a few steps.....
....holy crap...i been brazen stuff for a long time, this thing flowed like butter, stuck like glue and looked sweet...
that little wheel is the best clean prep i have ever seen... :D
these thing's clean like a tornado but throw virtually no spark so you can't be movin' hardly any metal and they evidently leave nothing behind.
give them a try

Wrong pic.

I get " box reinstalled on lathe"

Sounds like a good product if you can't sand blast it.
