Would this make a good welding table?

I picked up a table on casters a week back. It has a 2" thick aluminum top, but the working area is a bit small 20x38" or thereabouts. I would imagine it would work pretty well considering the tabletop is a giant chill block. Although, I need to figure out a clamping system for it.

I should post a picture, I'll do that tomorrow.

Allot of welders I know will tack weld the parts/blocks to the table.

Break them off and a quick pass with the grinder when done.

It all depends on what you are welding. A nice feature is spatter from steel welding won't stick to the top. Most of my "welding table" work simply requires a large fireproof flat surface, and aluminum serves that purpose. As for clamping in the center of the table, you can drill holes and use goosenecks, or there are sliding bar clamps that have spigots on the end to fit into holes on a table.
