Default Tip stickout in robotic welding

    Hello all

I recently startet working as welding robot operator among others, now my predecessor operator decided to replace the orginal mig torch that came with the robot (toking made) with some adapted new torch that keep on spining out of alignment, he is claiming that the orginal torch tip is sticking out (true) and thats is some mistake in the torch part (wich is wrong i saw it in the catalog)

Now i dont have experience in robotic welding but i had my share in manuall welding and afaik the tip usually flushed in acording to the welding current and does not stick out of the cover, but they didn't made the torch this way for nothing i guess.
I gonna try the torch anyway
But i would like to here your tought's on the subject.

I like to see the contact tips flush or just inside the nozzle. But with a robot you can justify some stickout as long as you still get good gas coverage = no porosity welds. You can program your setup to go around your part and adjust the weld coverage. You may need to set your heat down a little if the tip is closer to the weld area. Just my thoughts...Bob
