Anyone know of an organization or historical societies dealing with the history and technology of early electrical generation and distribution? Specifically from the earliest experiments up until the 1920s or so. There are collector groups for everything but I cannot find anything for early electrical equipment. Anyone have any leads?

The Owl's Head Transportation Museum near Rockland, ME has auctioned a lot of Edison related equipment and papers.
Charles Chiarchiaro, the director of the museum and auctioneer might know about interested groups and individuals.

Rick,

The British electricity industry probably isn’t of much interest to you, but I might as well post these links:-

This has some fairly interesting articles, such as 'Ferranti's Deptford Power Station'.

This photo might appeal to you:-

You can download some articles with illustrations of old electrical equipment from this Marconi site:-

Marconi acquired much of the British heavy and electrical engineering industry, and decided to dash it against the rocks. At least they took more care of the documents.
