Air compressor question

I have a compressor that is about 100 CFM. It is continous run by an engine. Would a 10 gallon tank be big enough to cushion the surge from each piston stroke so as not to open the unloader valve too much? I want to use the compressor for sandblasting. When the deadman valve is open, all the air should be used so the compressor won't cycle.

I think that the ten gallon tank will be big enough. My Ingersollrand 185 only has a small tank on it. Does your engine have a speed control on it? When I shut off the air at the gun my engine goes from a fast idle to a slow idle, then when open again the engine speeds back up.

If you have a 10 gallon tank your compressor will cycle an awful lot. Most 100 CFM machines I have seen have about an 80 gallon tank. Even with this size tank, the engine is two-blocked when sand blastng.
