I did a search and nothing came up. I am looking to move a safe with a handtruck. I am looking for the same type the gentleman who delivered the safe used.

The safe weighs 650 pounds. I would like this handtruck to have 4 wheels-2 primary, and 2 behind like a kickstand so I can push this safe around with out having to balance it.

Generally, this is referred to as an "appliance hand truck" and/or "vending machine handtruck".
What gets me is in home depot they have a cheap $99 version of such a thing with no bearings in the wheels, a really really really crude strap anchoring system with no ratcheting action, and it is made by "Milwaukee".

Possibly the SAME EXACT model, also made by "Milwaukee" is going for twice as much. Now, in home depot, I expect crap, and the level of quality on this hand truck was crap. But on the internet, it is very hard to inspect the details on such an item.

What bothers me is there are not GOOD PHOTOS posted on vendor's websites so I can see what I am getting.

Anybody with a really good one they would recommend or know of a really good dealer in Southern California? Thanks in advance!!

Below is copied from McMaster Carr. They list wheel bearing types and the cheapest with ball bearing wheels is about $235. The better ones with 1,200 lb capacity and the lean over retractable leg is aprox $370. These have roller bearing wheels.

Northen Tool sells these too, so perhaps there is a Northern store near you and you could inspect in person.

For $1,600 you can get one with motorized wheels for power stair climbing !

I have a "Dayton" (Grrrainger) without the rear "brace" wheels. It's aluminum with the ratchet strap and it's soooo nice. I paid a premium for those features but the truck is lightweight and can be carried around without breaking a sweat. I justified the cost of this on our last move where we got paid a flat amount to get the job done and did it ourselves to get the savings over a hired move, with rented trucks and that "little helper".

Take a look at Model 6873-49 from Harper Trucks.

100% made in the USA (Wichita, Kansas). Available at Airgas & other local welding supply stores. I have two of their welding cylinder trucks, both are built like a brick house.

We used these to move video games when i was in that field. They are very nice.

You can usually rent them from your local rental place for $10-$15/day if you just need to move that safe once or twice.

When I needed one I looked at all offerings I could find from Web search and catalogs and settled on Lift Rite from Grainger. They have steel wheels, rather than plastic and are well-constructed. I have been completely satisfied with the two I bought, one narrow & low profile and one extra heavy duty. The Lift Rite is the only brand I would recommend for serious use where dependability and long life is desired.
