Lathe Chuck Soft Jaws

Try US Shop Tools. As good a selection of softjaws as anyone in the business, with good quality, price, and delivery. Also, if you have a mill, its real simple to make your own standard tongue and groove type softjaws.

Criminy, make 'em. Chop up some 1 x 2 flatbar (alum or steel) into jaw lengths and go to town on a turret mill. In an hour or two you'll have your jaws. Make about 5 sets at a time. They're consumable tooling; you use them and bore them out to use them again until there's nothing left.

The more set's you make or buy up front the better!. It will save you time and save boring out a set made up for a small diameter when you need a large diameter job done. It's like having a set of something, more efficient. Most the time I can use an existing set of soft jaws and don't need to spend any time altering an existing set!. Do learn the proper way to set up a spider and bore out the soft jaws a couple thou's smaller than the part you need to chuck, in this case, bigger is not better!.
