Yup, was a good reminder to change original country to "somewhere".

You can call me "Hu" or you can call me "Dung" or you can call me "HuFlung", but, ya doesn't have to call me "Mister"
I picked my nickname because it seemed to be one that wasn't already taken on most any site I might happen upon and care to join. I hate having multiple nicks to remember, its bad enough having multiple passwords that must often be changed every 3 months in some situations.

I chose mine because I can use in in multiple places (haven't had anyone beat me too it except on ebay) and, like HuFlungDung, I can remember it on multiple sites (probably using it in 6-10 different places).
Enough information for people to address me, not enough to upset the witness protection people (oops, let the cat out of the bag).
BTW, at work, I had one heck of a time getting an email address, as we have 16 (yes, sixteen) people with my name, and 60 with my last name and first initial (and two with the same name and middle initial).

Forrest Addy, with a name like that, I'd always assumed it was a nome D'plume. Are you sure? Too bad, now smallshop is comin' to get you.
Keith Krome, you've got to be kidding!
John Stevenson, "99% of the time they are in the States and ask where can I get one of these gismo's ? but give no idea of where they are based. I delight in finding one in the UK for pennies just to wind them up." Exactly!
wippin' boy, if ever an avatar and name fit perfectly, it's yours. Then your spot-on, terse posts. Haven't heard from Pi lately, find him skulking in your backyard late at night?
Too late AllenKey, most of us already know you're from one of the "Lowlands" and it ain't Belgium. You know that Google spy-in-the-sky thing? Think I know what your backyard looks like. (Sound of "Jaws" theme.)
After years of lurking here, KNOWING I had nothing to offer, someone asked about putting a router on a vertical, I'd just completed one of those and thought, why not. Tried to log on with several variations on my name, no go. I even emailed Don to ask if all variations of my name were taken, he said "no." Must have been a glitch on my end, settled for the name my exceptional father gave me, it took.
This is my first internet experience, who knew? Thinking back on my "Chatty Cathy" posts, should have used "DORK, somewhere."

My last name is....Wierzbowski...OK, no it's not. I'm either Murph or Murph64 on the boards I sign up on. 64 being the number of the engine in my old fire company.

This worked well as I just met someone who realized he had seen me here and on some of the off-road/rock-crawling sites

In my case it's just a nickname everyone calls me in real life, but you do have a good point I'm not afraid of using my name as I always end a post with my name.
BUT''' D what really bothers me is why can't people use there real LOCATION? Not USA or some nickname of there location?????? it would give everyone a much better picture of whats going on in other parts of the country. (I know this should be another topic 'BUT')

I am starting to have second thoughts about using my real name here, because anyone doing a google search for "Deckel" will come across me and this forum and get familiar with my mad purchases and personnel garage adventures.
While I like to share that within the confines of the like minded fools on this forum, I am getting increasingly unhappy about this being as public as it is.
I may change to Garagefool4711 or better yet, change it every month and remain super stealthy.

I got mine about 10 years ago when I first signed up for msn chat. It was late night and I was on the road and bored stiff. I was just cruising the internet and had to come up with a name. It seemed appropriate at the time. Several variants were already taken so this is what I came up with. Since then I've signed up on several message boards, political and not, it's easy to remember as I cruise around the net.

Interesting you can connect 5 pixels (but which 5?)to a movie theme. Sounds sinister enough to me, to watch my steps there. I'm clueless

My moniker reflects my chosen line of work, heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators an so on.
Thermalneutron might have been a choice had I joined in my previous life while in nuclear power.
Idiotic? Maybe.
Confidence inspiring? Not hardly.

Well, I guess since we all have to explain ourselves and "why" we have such "idiotic" names here is my explanantion....
My handle started out as a bad joke and stuck. It is easily recognizable on the many different forums I am a part of. It is stupid and, yes, idiotic. With that said, if you go to another forum and you see "Jackalope", chances are you might have the mental ability to put 2 and 2 together.
BTW, I almost always add my "REAL" name at the end of my posts! ---Grant

Martin Peitz, it's ok to tell about your shop and where it is. Just don't tell about the trip wires, booby traps, land mines and machine guns.

Hello,
My screen name is Meco3hp. That refers to the type of old hit-n-miss engine that I collect. Meco = Manufacturers Engine Company Inc. My first engine I got, that was made by that company was a 3 hp engine, hence, Meco3hp. I figured that there wouldn't be too many folks wanting that name out there. I also get asked about it quite often, and that gives me a chance to get the word out about what kinds of engines I'm looking for and to get a plug in for the gas engine show that I'm involved in.
Thanks
Richard

i've just recently registered to this forum, though like many, i've been lurking for awhile now.
this seems like the perfect time/place to chime in!
i wonder, when you have the ability to choose a new name for yourself and essentially a new identity, maybe it creates comfort? the ability to leave behind (if only for the time you're logged in) whatever baggage your carrying at that moment. somewhat similar to "bar courtesy". leaving your thoughts on such things as politics and religion at the door, these are things that can define people, some make it obvious what there thoughts are some like to leave it out altogether, like using your real name or using a pseudonym this ulitmately has little effect on discussing machinery, or drinking beer and having a good time...
hello everyone, i'm not super nor am i a rat. --phil

Not so dumb, really. Mine is actally the name and wheelbase of my first Land-Rover. Easy to remember and not likely to be used anywhere else.
It's also my web email address - easy for a feeble set of synapses such as mine.

I am a peddler so therefore...
Actually I used to race bikes and while at a lunch with one of my dealers I mentioned being a peddler, as in sales... she just went off. "We are sales professionals and calling us 'peddlers' is wrong and blah, blah, blah..
Since then, I named my boat Peddler and when coming up with a screen name it just came to mind.
Another point, D. Thomas, is that some of us parents have trained our kids never to give out personal information over the internet. It would be wrong for me not to follow advise I give them.
This can come back at you though as I found out this summer. A group of us from another board were on a camping trip and while sitting around the fire my younger daughter leaned over to us and whispered, 'Mom, these are Dad's internet buddies, everyone is calling him Peddler! Doh! Busted!
The main reason for the anonymity? If my boss ever found out how much time I spend surfin' the home office would be a thing of the past!
