Steam Engine Plans

First: If I'm off topic or out of line please accept my apology...

I have been looking for plans for a stationary engine. I've seen a couple in museums with 3" bore. I'm trying to find a "work-horse" type, nothing too fancy.

If someone could point me to a book, magazine or website I would appreciate it.

If I'm out of line, flame me and I'll go down in smoke... ;o)

Start here. Some one on this forum probably can answer your questions and even give you some advise in building.

If you search there, there are some photos of a working model of the steam engines from the USS Monitor a fellow built. Absolutely gorgeous.

Two really great sources: Northewsr Steam Society has a great web page, lots of links, and a great newsletter. Dues is fairly cheap too. Another source is the Home Model Engine Machinist forum: http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com
Also another really good set of publications for live steam and machining in general are "live Steam Magazine", "Machinist Workshop", and "The Home Shop Machinist". All three are put out by Village press and are full of great ideas.
