I just ended up with Elgin lathe from an auction. The original motor is gone and the control levers (forward/reverse, hi/low) aren't connected to anything. Does anybody have a motor and switch for sale? Or is there a common retro-fit?

Thanks,
Tim

Tim,
I have an Elgin lathe that is hooked up and working and a hand drawn wiring diagram. I don't have any extra parts but would be willing to help you out with photos or a copy of the wiring diagram. I don't know where in Wisconsin you are but I am in south central Wisconsin and if you are close and wanted to look at how mine is hooked up,you are welcome to come over and look.

I would mention this on the Harding part of this site, however I have found that the switches on all 3 of my Hardinge machines are of different make also I am fairly certaoin that the UK made machines used Klockner rotary sswitches for these two operations, I had to replace those in a HC and Klockner had discontinued the model but Iwas able to substitute a modern one.
If I can be of elp do PM me
Peter

You might look here: www.glennview.com
A guy in Chicago who has a whole page devoted to old Hardinge and Elgin stuff. I just looked, and he says "I have surplus motors on hand." Might want to call him.
