Greetings All,

Do any of you use General Cadd? and what do you think of it?
I have been a die hard Generic Cadd user so it
is most suitable to me as it can convert all
my dwgs. I am stuck with the problem of not being
able to use all the nice newish hardware and
rodents etc.
I would also like to use it for training as it is
afforable and easy and in my opinion faster than acad lt. The demo uses the same 2 letter commands
which make things easy to remember.
What do you recon?
I seldom need 3D and is mainly for illustrations
and odd designs for my own use.
Thanks
Andy

Andy,
I learnt on Generic Cadd and what a brilliant program that was.
Even in those days they grasped the idaes that screen space and speed were the two most important things.

No stupid drop down menu's nested 23 deep, just a command line that accepted two digit inputs for all the commands.
A bit frightening to start but amazing how easy it was to get the most common ones off by heart.
The hardy used ones weren't worth learning anyway and a cheat sheet was always handy.

Autocad killed this off when they bought it as it was in direct competition.
It was resurected in Windows as Visual Cadd and also General Cadd.

When it became time to make a move from DOS to windows I went with Fastcad, written in assembly it's unbeliveably fast.
Clicking the program icon gets the program open withing a couple of seconds, no silly splash screen or loading modules for ages.

You can run this just like Generic if you want with whatever letter commands you like, it's so customisable.

John S.
