I the past, I have used 2x48 silicone carbide belts. I can not find anyone that makes that in the finer grits (150 to 600). What is a good substitute for silicone carbide or does amyone know who makes what I am looking for.

Thanks

I am a big fan of klingspor-
http://klingspor.com
and they sell silicon carbide belts in a wide range of sizes, backings, and grits. They will make up custom just about anything- I use a lot of alumina zirconia on stainless steel, and I get it for many sizes of belt sanders, psa discs, and flap discs as well.
I have a business account with them, and the prices are very good and shipping is usually within a couple of days, as they have warehouses on both coasts. German company, but much of the stuff is made in America.
If you want you can buy retail online at-
http://www.woodworkingshop.com/
costs more per part, but you dont have to set up an account.

Walther is good, German Co.
I have an associate that uses 3M belts that look metallic for aluminum. THey may be called diamond belts, not sure. one advantage is they cut the same from new to old. He finishes aluminum die castings all day long and has really studied this.
