I need to build a straightening bench for our shop. having only seen one once years ago, i need some advice, or a photo to work from. As memory serves , the indicator traveled on ground johnson bar or the equliv. mounted on the front of an I beam, with a sliding jack on the beam, now is where things get a bit foggy. there was a pair of centers, with some type of clamps to take the strain while jacking. After clamping the centers were pulled back, jack, re -engage the centers, unclamp, rotate by hand and check.
any thoughts or photos will help. Thank you . Lee

I saw one in a press at a Caterpillar plant, where the centers were springloaded to move with the part as pressure was applied, then they returned to their original location to check the part.

the ones i have seen
the checking was done on a spring loaded levered roller device
so when you put load on part it traveled down
and hit another set of rollers that took the load
then sprung back up to check part
can't picture it exactly
old timers setting in
