I have a myford lathe with a MT2 tailstock...Just kidding. :D :D
Actually I'm mulling over the procedure of machining a new worm for powerfeed on lathe. It's about 3" in length 6 tpi LH thread with approx. .800" bore. Am I assuming correctly that I should cut threads and shoulders to size first and then drill/bore out the bore second? I'm pretty confident that is right but I'll stand corrected if anyone shows me differently. Thanks

so, a drive shaft slides through the worm and has a key? or what? and your gear is ok?

hard to tell from your description.

I think I'd start with a boring and keying the part and cut the threads on it. just me.
