What wheels, assuming your using 7 x 1 1/4" wheels in a surface grinder , (grit, hardness, name brands) would you suggest for roughing and finishing high speed steel ???

I need to grind some "simple" form tools in high speed steel
I've always been unsure of what wheels will hold a better form, such as a dressed radius or angle, and which ones to use for roughing in and simple flat work. I've always heard Norton wheels are among the best you can buy, but I suppose that is a personal choice.

ya go with them rock fish for fine work i tend to go with 120j or 180 if it is really fine in 1/4 inch width of wheel.Allot of wheel selection depends on your style of grinding try a few different types to get a feel for how they break down or load up.

Rockfish,
The May 2007 issue of AMERICAN MACHINIST had a good article on abrasives.Norton has several
booklets on grinding that would be helpful.
