Default Band saw vice assist

I cut a piece of hyd. cyl. 6" od x 1/2" wall and cut an 1.25 chunk off, then drilled a 7/8" hole through one side. Sawed it in half and presto, got a nice clamp for when the workpiece is to short to be held in the vice. Holds nice and tight.

This is a cool idea. By using a cantilever, rather than extending the face of the moving vice jaw, you avoid torque on the jaw.

Thx.

That one ring segment could, (and will), replace the pile of various thickness, (but seldom the right one) spacers I keep "neatly" dumped among the chips and coolant in the tray. Very cool Ray. In the class "elegant" in my way of thinking.

That is a cool, quick solution.

Ray;

For a home shop guy, you sure do have some neat ideas!

Default Sell some!!

If you have more of the Hyd cyl left, and time to make a few more I bet you could sell them in the tooling section. I'd like one but I don't have the right piece of scrap laying around.

Snorkle!

It stands to reason that irony should have a central role on a metal forum

As for your idea, Ray, definitely another of yours I'm going to adopt

Thanks, "home shop guy"

Guys;

Just to clear things up. Ray is not a home shop guy as he was accused of being at one time. He's in the know. I only posted that to get a chuckle.

Thanks for the great tip Ray;

Thanks guys! OK, even Craig. It was funny. Anything I make I like to share with others. Been told by some that you need to keep things to yourself so you can be one up on the competition. Never been that way. I don't know, maybe I like to show off what I can do. Oh well, whatever it is I think if it helps me it may help someone else. The worst part of making these gizmos is when someone says; "Ray, you just have to much time on your hands." Why the heck do you think I made the damn thing? It saves me time!!! A special thanks to Limy Sami and Troup 'cause I just can't believe I converse on this comp. to fellas in England and New Zealand. Kinda neat!

Thumbs up Neat trick, Ray!

I'm stealin' the idea, too... don't have any hyd cylinder tubes lyin' around, but I got a big chunk'a 1020 tube that'll be okay.

Looks like an Ellis, with a pretty mean blade... am I right?

Good idea, but hasn't anyone used the step blocks from their mill?

Dave,

But of course it's an Ellis! The blade is a 2/3 that I use for big round.

Sure, I have a pair of step blocks on my saw all the time. Now I'll have a Ray clamp also!

These are my favorite drill press clamps. I've been using them in my saws for short stock since the 70's.
