Bonding PP+ EPDM?
Need to bond some plastic bumper parts, I guess they could be welded but wondering if there's another way?
A quick Google search says this stuff is tricky to glue...
-
Maybe try EPDM RTV caulk?

A company I once worked at had some success bonding EPDM to a talc filled polypropylene. It was a special CA if I recall. It is very tricky to glue, but they make adhesives that can bond to Teflon so it can be done. Though the cost of the glue and the quality of the bond may disappoint. If I recall correctly, the polypropylene can be flamed first to increase surface energy before applying the adhesive.
You might want to talk to application engineers at places like 3M.

Try double sided tapes too. they can work better than glue on some plastics.

Another source of info might be Masterbond ( MasterBond.com | Adhesives, Sealants & Coatings ). I get lots of ads from them on bonding stuff to stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions, it's the EPDM (rubber) part that makes it tough, found out you can't weld it either.
3M has some answers, maybe a special tape although their regular body tape didn't hold up. They also have a product called CA40 that they claim works.

If it is the 3M Pronto CA40 H, yes it does work with EPDM (I remembered that for over ten years, wow!). However, we found that Three Bond had an even better CA for EPDM, that cost less too. I don't rememebr what it was called though...

Thank you!

Ended up using the body trim tape again but with their primer first, what a difference! I would highly recommend this product for anyone trying to bond difficult plastics.

Yeah, the surface activators or primers make a huge difference on difficult to bond materials like plastics with low surface energy.
