Camlock "part" of a Spindle or not?
Page Title
As seen on the above on the picture where it shows the spindle, There are 6 screws at the front of the spindle. I was wondering, what are those screws holding? Is it the D1 camlock. I'v seen those screws on other lathes as well with D1's. Does it mean the spindle is made from 2 parts namely the spindle and the D1 camlock bolted together?

Those screws hold parts of the locking mech for the cams the spindle is one piece.

Nope - spindle is one piece with very classy machining on the business end.

By the locking mechanism You mean the whole ring with those six cam-holes or...?
So the tapered nose and the rest of the spindle one piece... glad to hear that , those tiny screws couldn't handle such high loads.

I think the little screws capture the cams in the spindle. There are also screws in the chuck backplate that hold in the pins (and prevent rotation on those).
I have a D1-6 spindle. Definitely all one piece. I had to rescrape in a backplate that got dinged in shipping and the published specs are quite tight (the taper diameter control how 'deep' the flange seats so to get it to pull *just* tight on the shallow taper is tricky to say the least.)
This shows it well. Note 93&94 are the pins/nut that go in the chuck. All my chucks use a screw instead of a nut though.

So that answers it... the 92 screw (is what I was wondering about) limits the axial movement of the part 90 and the housing is the part of the spindle.
Thanx.

#92 holds #90 in place. What kind of lathe are you used to?? A wooden treadle lathe??
