I have purchased a Canedy Otto drill press fairly cheap via Craigslist. It is a 16-18” model with horizontal flat belt drive, not the vertical of larger older models. It currently has a threaded (1”-8) Jacobs 59b headstock chuck mounted. I was hoping to remove the threaded chuck and replace with a more suitable Morse taper chuck. I assume there is a shopmade arbor (MT3ish to 1”-8) to mount currently however I cannot see a slot in the quill for a knockout drift. I assume I need to make or purchase a wedge type drift to attempt to unseat the taper in the spindle? I am looking to replace the single phase motor as the shop has 208 three phase and would like the option for instant reverse. This likely isn’t t a good idea with a threaded chuck,( I was already able to unthread the chuck from the arbor.). Any ideas before I start attempting to separate the wrong parts or in the wrong place? Any advice appreciated.
I have $75 in the press already and $2 for a chuck key for the Jacobs chuck so even a bit or money spent on a new three phase motor and foot switch wouldn’t put me out much for a decent press.
