I have a 13/16" diameter shaft made from 8620 (not hardened yet) that needs a oil groove cut in to it. It is .75 TPI for 3 inches. My lathe only goes down to 4 TPI. Other than doing it by hand with a file or perhaps a Dremel tool, I am out of ideas???

Looking across the shop I don't see how my mill or shaper could do it either.:scratchchin:

Functionally, it doesn't need to be a spiral at all. You could cut a shallow round bottom groove at each extent (or wherever the fill hole is), and then join with a axial groove.

How fast will the power feed run? You could try it out with a Sharpie in the tool post to see if it might work.

How often is this needed?

You should be able to adjust the gear quadrant (make leadscrew 5.3 time faster when set to 4 tpi)

Don’t engage motor, don’t drive with cheater bar on chuck.

Drive the leadscrew directly, or as close to directly, by hand.

Set up a dremel/die grinder/ router to a carbide bit, not a stone.

Cover up the ways, use a shop vac to immediately suck up the chips.
