Diamond Paste Sources

Bruce,
I carry diamond hones in my toolkit. various grades and sizes from credit card sized 1200 grit I carry in my wallet to 3"x9" 1200 or 600 grit. Small slips from 240 grit on up. They are cheap. The larger grit being slightly more expensive

I found them at Woodcrafters.com
If you go that route make sure you get the 'mono-crystalline' not the 'poly-crystalline'.

As I understand it, a milled steel plate is nickle plated, diamond dust is apllied and the plates are heated to 'solder/braze?' the dust diamond dust.

Hope that helps.

Bruce, The stuff I used came from a local source B%J Induscrrial Supply. It's also available from any lapidary supply, J&L, MSC, and the usual culprits. Google "diamond lappng compound" and you get a zillion sources but a finger walk through the yellow pages to "lapidery equipment and supplies" will provide you with a local source.

Use the 6-12 Micron (green) for soft metal laps and 4-8 (orange) for cast iron. Remember that the green stuff acted harsh on the cast iron lap I made for the class.
