$4,500 mill that is worth $0

Of course the seller is who I knew it would be even before looking at the name...the more persistant genetic mutation of Hydrogenguy

as the wind whistles and tumbleweeds gently roll thru another eBay seller's empty skull...

Mike may have totally gone nuts, or he thinks there's a sucker born every minute. He seems to think he can get triple what any other dealer can get for items. My latest laugh was his Fafnir spindle bearing pairs for $800.00 buy it now.Now when I can buy the same bearing pair for $200.00 from a bearing house, I just gotta wonder about him too! Or Excello boring machine manuals for $50.00- COPIES no less. You can buy the MACHINE for less than fifty bucks!

It's also amazing that he has a 99.5 POSITIVE feedback. Over 3385 positive feednbacks and 13 negatives. How does he do it?

I love how he expects to sell a piece of junk for $4500 and yet gives only about 5 words worth of description.

He does it selling BS like this

If you look thru his feedbacks, nearly every sale is either a manual or something under $200. I did find one instance of him selling a machine...a Sunnen hone for $4,500...which was "only" $1,000 over market value...probably some motorcycle guy bought it too dumb to know market values.

But a machine such as this rusting production mill, would set there till the sun burns out even at $500...$4,500 is Looney Tunes time indeed.

Dont forget the $100 loading charge.

If you look through his feedback enough you will find a few "I paid to much" written.

Speaking of which, isn't is hilareous that he spent the time to post a long review and further descriptions on the dollar fifty book ?

Which anyone with even the tiniest piece of brain cell remaining, would know is a money loosing propositon even spending bare minimal time on the listing. I figure even at minimum wage rates, one would have to sell an item one got for free for at least $10 to break even, after one accounts for time taking photo, writing the listing, dealing with emails, dealing with money, dealing with shipping, eBay fees, etc. Anything under $10 and it's more "profitable" throwing it in the trashcan.

There are other examples once you start "drilling"

    $6000 Bpt with no pictures

The amazing thing is there are 163 pages of items listed, some 8100 items total....I can only guess the "shotgun approach".

However, if you go back and look at auctions which gave feedbacks in the last week (starting 9-11) he's got a fair chunk of change rolling in (not that this directly matches when the auctions ended as feedbacks can be given anytime up to a limit), but it's one way to look at it.

Anybody know how "ebay stores" charges? Is it just a flat rate per month? I have no clues about what rules apply to "ebay stores"...

    Black Ice! LOL....

Yes, I agree - if an item doesn't sell for at least $10 I would never even bother listing it.

Mike probably has one of two things going on with respect to his descriptions. First, he uses a clearning house where you can backup a dumptruck of junk and they will sell it for you. They pay minimum wage for their workers to take/post pics while they record/write your verbal description so it can written into the posting. All you have to do is dump your junk, come back a few hours later when they have they everything laid out, and then you walk around and verbally describe it. The next day, it's posted on ebay and the clearing house take a cut, just like ebay does to post it. The second option is that Mike has a couple of folks in house doing this and he avoids the middleman. Either way, it's a lucrative business as not everyone is as "machine" educated as members of this board. You figure his target audience is somewhere in the 10 million +++??? folks who use ebay so there is always a buyer....

On a similiar note, I told a friend of mine that I needed new tires for my car but was pushing it off because of the costs for z-rated tires. I told him the price quotes I got from Discount Tire Co, National Tire, Sears, Walmart, etc. He looked at me funny and said that those quotes were 2/3's of what he just paid for his tires on his car (He and I have same style car and we want same tires). When I asked where he bought his tires, he said the "the dealer, of course". When I asked why he went to a car dealer to buy tires, his response was "wanted to make sure I received the right tire for my car".

There's always someone out there who will pay what's asked.....

PS- Just remember another thing about ebay and junk. There are numerous folks who go around to garage sales and purchase as much "stuff" as they can. They dump it off at the clearing house so it can get posted on ebay. This is where the 9.99 shipping/handling charge kicks in. Even if they sell it for a penny, they still come out ahead a buck or two compared to what they paid for it and what it costs them to post it. Again, very lucrative for some folks who know how to deal in volume...

You are dead wrong in those two statements. Shall I explain ? If so, it would help me to know how much personal experience you have selling on eBay before crafting my response.

    Don,
That mill you started the topic with is what I run into constantly with the local machines.

The weirdos around here see on TV where a rare, pristine, '65 Mustang owned by Paul Newman that is authenticated went for $200,000.

Then they go out back cut down the trees growing through their old '65 Mustang, run the dogs and chickens out, put trash bags where the windows were, and ask $150,000.

What is bad THEY THINK IT"S WORTH IT!!!!!!

Makes me sick. I have no tolerance for stupid.

Topic: eBay machine funny of the day
Funny? Huh? Nothin funny about this thread or the ebay listing.

I expected to see another lathe or mill painted, completely. You know, every square inch including the way slides. Then read a description saying "just removed from a working shop, runs great". Or something to that affect.

But nope. Just a machinery dealer lookin to poke at another dealer for listing his machinery too high.

Nothin funny or unusual here. Ebay has many auctions that never end due to the over priced starting bid. I have been watching an auction for a Monarch that is over priced. I even made an offer on it. I started watching the auction last year. Its still there. Same price, same picture. How the hell do they do that. What about the listing fee?

Anyway. Its not just ebay. I have been to many used machinery dealers stores. Sometimes I think used machinery dealers are worse than used car dealers. They can be some of the most greedy, pissy rotten old men I have met. Almost seems like they are pissed cause you walked in the door and weren't holding a suitcase full of green backs.

Maybe they are not really greedy by nature but just got screwed at the last auction and overpaid for a piece of junk so they feel compelled to pass the bad luck.

Don, I am surprised you started this one. Again, not funny as in humorous or unusual so I guess its just another poke at another ebay seller. There have been many numerous topics on this already. So without the "funny" part its just another useless topic.

I feel like firing up a new topic.."Whats the Enco free shipping code for the month"....."Should I buy a Chinese lathe or a used American made one"...."Harbor freight has this mill, is it any good"...."How do I remove rust"...

    Yeah, just another dead topic....JRouche

Hey Don, no need to come at with me guns a'blazing. I agree with you and everyone else's disgust with people doing stupid things on ebay. I think discussing ebay tactics and the reasoning why folks do what they do is like talking about religion and politics. You know the outcome of those discussions... Looking back, I guess I shouldn't have suggested a reason for Mike Kandu's actions and instead just expressed my amazement/disgust like everyone is doing.

JR, it is funny..like 'ha, ha' funny to me and it's on topic as it concerns machine tools. Not quite as funny as Hydrogenguy was, but pretty funny nontheless.

If it's not funny to you, well, you just have a difference sense of humor I guess...that's ok too....just don't assume your sense of humor is the only proper one.

I do think its Ha Ha' funny, the stuff Kandu lists with buy it now pricing is 'stupid silly' and maybe he snags one from time to time. He sure helps the stockholders at Ebay make a buck, even if WE think he doesn't. He is a reflection of what is happening in American life today. The want it NOW, approach makes for poor decisions by those folks.

So your friend is running around on new tires and your still shopping. How much time and effort do you have invested in these tires you've not yet bought? Value your time and add it up you'll probably come in at the same price as your friend or at loss. That said do you value the hunt or the meat in the freezer? Each one of us is different and values different things. Some things I'll shop for, some I just step up and pay the price. I used to do the auto swap meets a lot. I went with a friend one time who just bought a stall so he did not have to park in the parking lot. He put a $16,000 price on his car worth about $5000 just for grins. Some guy walks up and writes a check for the full $16k. You never know what some people are willing to pay.
